Shay Mitchell is Filipina descent, and her father is of Scottish/Irish roots. Mitchell is also Lea Salonga's cousin, the renowned musical theater actor and singer. When she was a kid, Mitchell attended Rockridge Secondary after which she transferred to West Vancouver Secondary School. In her late teen years Mitchell worked with various modeling agencies across the globe. She travelled across the world to Barcelona Bangkok Hong Kong before eventually returning to her home country and studying acting in Toronto.
